Just realised I haven’t put a page up about Cowes under the Solent Trips section and this is unforgiveable seeing as I’ve been visiting East Cowes since the 1970’s. East Cowes Marina is run by Dean and Reddyhoff who also own Haslar so we always berthed there due to the discount. Although you either have to get the water taxi to West Cowes or walk into the town and across on the chain ferry, the marina is pleasant and the shower facilities modern and clean. The Lifeboat pub/restaurant next to the marina serves decent pub food and has a nice terrace overlooking the boats.
The tide at springs can run very fast through the marina so you need to be careful when berthing, especially in the visitor’s area where you may have boats ahead of you.
West Cowes is full of chandleries and boaty shops, lovely galleries and restaurants and if you walk right through the town to the seafront you will come to the Royal Yacht Squadron and a fantastic view of the solent.
If you carry on past the marina and up the Medina, you will come to the Folly Inn (another good watering hole with moorings close by) and even further up some shallow draft boats can make Newport.
