From late June to mid July 2009 we sailed overnight to Dartmouth, then to Alderney, Guernsey, Sark, Jersey and Cherbourg. We had a wonderful time, learnt a great deal, having a few interesting issues. We had to tow a fellow sailing boat out of danger on the NW tip of Guernsey and back into St Peter Port, dealt with Rob dislocating his shoulder in calm weather, had engine problems in rough weather and sailed back into St Helier in a Force 6.
We also had lovely days relaxing in the sun, fishing and rowing the dinghy. We also met old friends, Dave, Rob’s school friend and one of our son’s girlfriend’s family. Both took us around their respective islands on a tour and we were very grateful for their time and knowledge.
The long summer break is something to be planned for during the dark winter months. Last year we battled the wind direction but this year we will decide where to go nearer the time to make better use of the elements!
