Last weekend we spent 2 nights anchored outside Newtown as it was far too busy to get into. Good practice for us to depend on our anchor though and saved the 25 pound charge at Yarmouth on the mooring buoy.
Our friends on Gemini sailed over from Poole on Saturday and we had dinner onboard. It was warm enough to sit outside in the cockpit for the starter but we went below for the main. Both dessert and cheeses were kindly supplied by Jane and we chatted on until midnight, mostly about the ARC as they are coming with us next November.
The trip back was a bit of an adventure, with gusts up to 32 kts. Someone was stuck on Bramble Bank with the lifeboat calling up another vessel fast approaching it also! We often seem to be out in a F6-7 but have a 10 day holiday coming up – perhaps it will be less windy and we will get to Alderney, Guernsey or the West Country this time.
The Southampton Boat Show beckons tomorrow and we have a list of equipment the boat needs for our trip next year. New propellor, freezer and spares for the watermaker and generator being just a few of them. We are attending a seminar on the Atlantic Crossing on Saturday morning, followed by another trip to the Boat Show. I love the Boat Show – can’t wait 🙂
